🚂 Steam to Grootdraai aboard "Ouma" – NG10 No. 61
Climb aboard an extraordinary piece of living history for a scenic steam train ride to Grootdraai.

Pulled by the legendary South African Railways Class NG10 No. 61, affectionately named “Ouma”, this restored 1915 Baldwin locomotive is the only American-built steam engine in the Sandstone fleet. With its spacious cab and classic 4-6-2 design, it offers an authentic World War I era rail experience unlike any other in South Africa.

Originally built to power the Avontuur line during wartime shortages, “Ouma” was brought back to life after a monumental 3-year restoration by Lukas Nel and his team. It steamed again for the first time in 58 years at the Stars of Sandstone 2019.
